More Than 40 Pounds Lost
How Nutrition Helped One Member Get His Life Back
"I feel like I am in better shape now than I was 30 years ago."
That's a bold statement. But after spending just a few minutes talking with Scott, one of our members, about his journey, it's easy to understand why he says it.
When Scott joined CrossFit Enforce nearly a year ago, he wanted to improve his health and fitness. What he didn't expect was how dramatically it would change the way he experiences everyday life.
The Moment It All Clicked
Recently, Scott and his wife traveled out west for a hiking vacation. In previous years, hikes of six to ten miles with 2,000 feet of elevation gain left him exhausted. "I would always be tired and out of gas by the end. I would be sore and not ready to hike the next day."
This trip was different. "I felt the best I have ever felt hiking. No huffing and puffing. No long rests. I felt like I could go on another hike that day. It was refreshing and made the hiking 1000% more enjoyable."
Then his wife put his transformation into perspective. "It has to feel better hiking 40 pounds lighter. Try putting a 40-pound mulch bag on your back and hike and see how it feels." It's hard to think of a better way to describe what losing 40 pounds really means.
You Can't Out-Exercise a Poor Diet
Like many people, he thought working out alone would be enough. "I had always been a terrible eater. I drank soda non-stop and did not eat any vegetables. I could not out exercise a terrible diet."
The turning point came during our October Nutrition Challenge and through one-on-one coaching with Coach Tyler. Instead of restrictive meal plans or unrealistic expectations, he learned sustainable habits. "I have not had any soda in the last 11 months, and I have found vegetables I like."
Perhaps even more importantly:
"Tyler has set me up with basic habits I can rely on for a long time. It's not always perfect, but like Tyler told me, it doesn't have to be." That's exactly what good nutrition coaching should do—build habits you can live with for years, not weeks.
More Than Weight Loss
The number on the scale tells only part of the story. Today, he can golf without discomfort. His chronic ankle feels dramatically better. He's accomplishing movements in the gym he never imagined possible. "I feel like the gym has given me my active lifestyle back." Those words mean more than any before-and-after photo ever could.
Why Community Matters
He'll also tell you his success wasn't built on nutrition alone. "The gym has given me a great place to work out, but the gym offers so much more. It is one big family that encourages everyone to be their best. I have made so many new friends. I felt welcome from day one."
Support from his wife, encouragement from coaches, accountability from friends, and consistent nutrition coaching all played a role. And it all started because two friends invited him to a Bring a Friend workout. "I am so glad Corey and Don dragged me down for Bring a Friend Day last August. It has been life changing."
Is Nutrition Coaching Worth It?
People often ask him if our nutrition program is worth it. His answer never changes. "1000% YES!"
Because this wasn't about following a diet. It was about building habits, gaining confidence, losing 40 pounds, and getting back the active life he thought was behind him.
If you've been working hard in the gym but feel like your nutrition is holding you back, know this: you don't have to be perfect. You just need a plan, some accountability, and a coach who's invested in your success. You might be surprised by how much your life can change in just one year.
